Cygnus sails forward with Norwegian ship building

Cygnus has strengthened its presence in the ship building industry, with a major Norwegian contract for Bull Products.

Working alongside Vestcom, a major wireless communication supplier in Norway, Bull has recently supplied more than 50 of its renowned Cygnus Wireless Alarm Systems to several Norwegian Shipyards: Kleven Group, Vard Group and Ulstein Group. The ships, which are currently being transformed into luxury cruise ships, will be worth over £100 million each once complete.

The units installed on the ships include the Cygnus Control Panel, Cygnus Call Point Alarm, Cygnus Detector Interface, and 25 of Bull’s Fire First Responder Stations. The responder stations ensure all fire protection equipment, such as fire extinguishers and signage, are all located in one convenient place and can be moved around the site with ease.

Ferenc Szell, Managing Director at Vestcom, said: “Due to the nature and cost of this project, it was imperative that we invested in the most advanced alarm system that we could find. We required an adaptable wireless alarm system that could provide a strong enough signal to work on these ships but the previous alarm system we had was outdated and simply couldn’t meet the complex demands of this project. Investing in Cygnus was the way forward for us to ensure we protect workers and safeguard the ships.”

Matthew Trigwell, Sales Director at Bull Products, said: “We’re delighted to be working with Vestcom and providing the Cygnus wireless alarm system to such a unique project. Vestcom is a great partner to work and we’re pleased that the initial trial went smoothly – it puts us in a great position to work with them on further projects in the future.

“The Cygnus system has been developed to address the needs of the market, regardless of the complexity of the project, and we believe this will strengthen our place within the ship building market and open up new opportunities in order to grow further overseas.”
