Contractors Keepmoat specified for the Cygnus System to be installed on their project ‘Broomview’ in Sighthill, Edinburgh. The development is 5 miles west from the centre of Edinburgh and will provide a tranquil haven away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
The Broomview development is predominantly timber frame construction; therefore, it was essential to install an effective and reliable system that will detect and warn of fires very quickly.
The Cygnus system that has been installed consists of 20 Cygnus call points and 43 Cygnus heat detectors located throughout the development that communicate with the Cygnus Control Panel. Located in the site office, the Cygnus control panel can connect to 480 addresses and is linked to an Auto Dialler for complete protection out of hours. If the system is activated out of hours the Auto Dialler will send SMS messages to mobile numbers that have been programmed into the device to alert authorities as to the activity on site. Read more about the benefits of the Auto Dialler here.
The Cygnus system has been designed specifically for construction sites, where protection of lives and property is important. A timber frame construction could be raised to the ground in moments which is why it’s critical to have detection and means of warning throughout the duration of the project.
Broomview development began in the first half of 2017 and is due for completion spring 2019. The Cygnus system will continue to adapt to the site as it progresses and more units are added to the system when required.
